How do I prepare a tax return with multiple jobs?

A practical answer from the Affordable Bookkeeper knowledge centre.

Gather income statements and relevant records for all jobs, along with evidence of eligible expenses. Your tax return considers your overall position for the income year, not each job in isolation.

What this means in practice

Check that income statements are ready and identify any allowances, reimbursements or other payments. Expenses shared between jobs should not be claimed twice. If different employers withheld different amounts, the final result will depend on total income and the other information in your return. Keep the records organised by employer and expense type.

Your next steps

  • Collect all income statements
  • Review allowances and reimbursements
  • Avoid duplicate expense claims
  • Identify other income for the year
