Nurse tax returns in Perth

Nurses may work for more than one employer, through an agency or in different clinical settings. We help bring income records and evidence of work expenses together for a clearer tax preparation process. Support is available remotely and in English or Tamil.

Review expenses against your actual work

Registration fees, professional development, eligible clothing and work-related phone use may need consideration. Each item must meet the applicable rules, relate to your work and be supported by evidence. An allowance on a payslip does not automatically make the same amount deductible.

How we can help

  • Income statement review
  • Multiple employer income records
  • Work expense evidence checklist
  • Professional fee records
  • Overdue return support
  • Registered tax practitioner coordination

A process that fits around your shifts

You do not need business accounting software for an employee tax return. Start with your income statements, payslips and work expense records. We help organise information from hospital, community and agency roles, identify gaps and agree a practical way to provide the remaining documents. Remote support is available in English or Tamil.

What to expect from your tax return support

We review your records for the relevant financial year, separate reimbursed and private expenses, and raise questions about deductions before the return is prepared. Income from independent nursing work is identified separately for review. You receive a quote based on the years and complexity involved, with any tax lodgement coordinated under the registered practitioner arrangement.

Getting started

Tell us which financial years you need help with and whether you worked for hospitals, agencies or as an independent provider. Let us know about salary packaging, study and any outstanding returns so we can tailor your document checklist.

During onboarding, we agree how to provide your records, confirm any required authority and explain the review and approval steps before lodgement.

Common tax questions from nurses

I work hospital shifts and through a nursing agency. Can you help with both?

Yes. We bring together income statements from each employer or agency, payslips, allowance details and work expense records for your tax return. Tell us if you also invoice for independent nursing work, so those records can be reviewed separately from your wages.

Can I claim my annual AHPRA registration renewal?

A renewal needed to continue your current nursing work is generally deductible if you paid it and were not reimbursed. The initial registration that enables you to start nursing is treated differently and is not deductible on that basis. Keep the renewal notice and payment receipt.

Can I claim nursing uniforms, scrubs and laundry?

Only clothing that meets the deduction rules qualifies, such as eligible protective clothing or a qualifying uniform. Ordinary clothing does not qualify simply because you wear it on shift. Keep purchase receipts and a record of eligible laundry costs; exclude anything your employer pays or reimburses.

Are nursing CPD courses and postgraduate study deductible?

Courses that maintain or improve skills used in your current nursing role may qualify. Study that prepares you for a new occupation has different treatment, and the way course fees are funded also matters. Keep invoices, course details and evidence of how the study relates to your current duties.

Can I claim travel between hospitals or to an agency shift?

Direct travel between separate jobs on the same day, or between work sites while performing duties, may qualify. The usual trip from home to a regular workplace is generally private, including night shifts. Keep dates, locations and the work purpose, and have changing agency placements reviewed individually.

Does receiving a meal or travel allowance mean I can claim the same amount?

No. An allowance and an expense deduction are assessed separately. We review the allowance shown on your payslip, what you actually spent, the work circumstances and the records required. Receiving an allowance does not create an automatic deduction for that amount.

What should I prepare for my nurse tax return appointment?

Bring income statements from all employers, any agency or invoiced-work records, AHPRA renewal receipts, professional membership records, CPD invoices and evidence of other work expenses. Include salary-packaging statements if relevant, and tell us about reimbursements and any outstanding tax returns. We will explain which further records are needed.
